Mafikizolo is celebrating their milestone celebration with a new hit single for their fans.

It has been 23 years in the industry for the duo made up of Nhlanhla Nciza and Theo Kgosinkwe.

The song, Thandolwethu is co-written by singer and songwriter Msaki.

The song embraces the victories of love after trying times and a commitment of staying together through it all.

“We worked on the song before lockdown, we were about to wrap up our album and then the lockdown happened,” said Kgosinkwe.

“There were songs that we already worked on so despite the fact, our fans still want to be entertained and want music while they are at home and that inspired us to be positive and hopeful. We need to release the material we have done, in the meantime our fans must know we are alive and still cooking in the studio. Thandolwethu is in anticipation of the forthcoming album.”

The duo said working with Msaki on the song was long overdue.

“As a songwriter I love to work with other songwriters as well. The energy is amazing, I've always loved the songs she has penned down and I wanted to collaborate with her in terms of co writing together for Mafikizolo. I gave her a call and she has been a fan of Mafikizolo. We came up with ideas and once everything was done we went to the studio and by the time Nhlanhla came to the studio, the song was done and it was easy to get into and record the song.”

Kgosinkwe said working with other writers is good for the Mafikizolo brand as well.

“We love working with young people. They are very creative, they come up with new things, they inspire us to be relevant. It has been awesome working with Msaki and there are future projects we are still going to work together with her.”

He said Thandolwethu was something fans could expect to be classic Mafikizolo.

“The song is a beautiful song, we always sing about love and fun and all those things. The song also reflects on the milestone of Mafikizolo. It is also to inspire other people to say that love is strong despite the lockdown. It is a mid tempo dance song.”

While on lockdown the duo has been doing livestream performances which have kept them going.

“It is not the same as performing lives and the revenue is not the same but it keeps us hopeful that things are going to get better. At the same time it has taught us that it is the year of innovation. We are learning to be more creative, how to stay relevant and looking at the future post Covid19.”

This year, Mafikizolo celebrates 23 years in the industry.

“The years go so fast. We want our fans to continue showing love and support to all artists. It is a tough time for our industry, we are surviving through downloads and streaming. Those are the things that keep us going.”

The song will be available on digital platforms on Friday.
